Note Air 2 vs. Note 5

I've been comparing the specs for these two devices. I can't find much that's different. Even the battery is the same capacity for both! Yet there is a price difference between the two, with the Note 5 being more expensive.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I see no reason to choose the Note 5 over the Note Air 2. Am I missing anything?

here you can see the difference. Just screen type, form factor and rotation sensor/no sensor, also fingerprint sensor and Note 5 is slightly lighter.

Thanks for the link. It was most helpful. I've had my Nova 2 for a while and like it a lot, but a larger screen and more storage will be better for me now. I've just ordered the Air 2!

One interesting thing to "note" here is that the Note Air 2, with its glass screen, is actually slightly heavier than the Note 5, with its flexible plastic Mobius screen!

As far as which is better, that may depend. Some argue that the Mobius technology is naturally better for a good writing experience with eInk devices. Others prefer the more solid feel of a glass screen, and add that a good stylus can make the writing experience quite good on a glass screen.

The question for me was whether the difference would be enough to justify the price difference between the two. I decided that it wasn't. For me, reading eBooks and pdfs is primary; writing is a useful secondary need. The writing experience on the Note Air 2 is more than good enough for me. I'd put it on a par with my iPad mini 5 and Apple Pencil (1st gen), if that helps. Artists and engineers who do more precise work with a stylus may find the difference more significant.

It's a partly cloudy day here as I write. I have a lamp on next to my chair, to my right. A large window is to my left. Sitting in my chair, I see no glare/reflections as I read. If I turn my device to the right, toward the lamp, I see minimal signs of glare. Turning my device to the left, toward the window, I see a streak gf glare when the device reaches a certain angle, but everything on the display is still quite legible. As long as the device is on, I don't see reflections.

If I turn the Note Air 2 off, so that there is no internal light, I see a reflection of myself, but one that looks like I'm in fog. I also notice more glare when I turn the device to one side or another.

The glass on this device has some kind of coating on it which affects the feel when I write. It may also reduce glare/reflections.

I don't use my device outdoors, so I can't comment on that. The bottom line is that I have to make an effort to see any glare, and even then it is subdued.

Note 5 is barley available and also there are reports on reddit where buyers complain about a curved out screen. It doesn't seem to be a swollen battery issue rather some other QC/manufacturing problem. I haven't found any similar problematic issues regarding the note air 2.

I think this could be important making a decision keeping in mind that Onyx is internationally present but one could not say that they are a fully integrated as an international company. Buying an expensive device I keep that in mind cause of complicated and annoying warranty procedures that could emerge. Basically I really hope never ever have to deal with onyx directly as long as they do not have a stronger direct present in Europe and even if it goes trough the retailer such things can happen...
