Kobo book prices in the US

I've finally given up on Amazon ever releasing a e-reader that uses a stylus and I'm considering purchasing the Kobo Sage.

I've never purchased an ebook from Kobo at all. Are their ebook prices usually similar to Amazon's in the US? Do they also have something similar to Amazon's Kindle Deal of the Day and Deals of the Month?

Thanks!

Book prices are similar. For books with prices set by the publisher they are the exact same. Kobo can be a bit more sometimes and sometimes you need their VIP program to get the best price. They will price match with Amazon, Google Play etc. although you only get credit back. They do have daily deals and you can get certain books for free with points you get for buying books.

Since Kobo uses ePub its possible to buy books off other stores that use Adobe DRM like Google Play books as well.

Kobo does have sales, and will send you emails about them.

There's a thread in the Deals forum where people post Kobo coupon codes.

And if you have access to an Overdrive library you can get many library books directly on the reader (the Kobo store has to have the same edition of the book that the library has)

The Price Match guarantee can be quite useful. I'm not in the US, but several times I've been able to get useful store credit that I then used for books not available on Amazon, reducing the total purchase price.

@ChrisHistorian76: Can I suggest you have a look yourself? The Kobo store is on-line and you can explore it yourself. And you can look at the prices of books you are interested in to see what they are like. Maybe take the last 10 books you bought and see what it would have cost at Kobo.

And don't forget, you can sideload to the Kobo devices. You are not limited to buying from Kobo. If you can convert the book to a supported format, you can read it on the device.

I don't think they have as many book titles as Amazon, but, if the book is on sale with one of the big publishers, Amazon and Kobo (along with eBooks.com and Barnes & Noble and, I guess, Google, though I never go there anymore) will probably also have it on sale for the same price. The selection for old, reprinted (self-published) history and religious books is much more extensive with Amazon — and the selection of self-published books in general seem to be wider with Amazon. So I guess it depends on what books you're looking for.

The way I usually do it is, if I see a book I'm interested on sale at Amazon, I'll go to see if it's also on sale at eBooks.com or Kobo (or even at Barnes & Noble). If it is I'll buy it somewhere other than Amazon. I do still end up buying books from Amazon though, because some are just not available anywhere else.

If you just want to use one store you won't get a good deal on every book. I have been using the Kobo store on my ereader because it is convenient (aka luxury tax), which is probably just the same with only using Amazon for example.

You have to shop around for the best deal. I have seen certain books on Apple at half the price of Kobo and Amazon. There are also good deals from some of the authors websites. But at the end of the day, it takes time and effort....

I've used the Kobo Price Match several times for books that were on Amazon, Apple and other vendors. Some were one day sales which was a pleasant surprise, others were just cheaper on the other site. The refund (difference in price plus 10% of the competitor's price) is a credit on your Kobo account and I've used the accumulated credit to make other ebook purchases.

If you set up a PC with DRM removal. (alas, we can't go into details publicly on this forum, for.... reasons.) You can buy your books from either Amazon *or* kobo and read on on any device. on a book by book device. Not to mention being able to transfer your existing library.
