New to Onyx Boox

Hi all,

I've only just made the jump to a new Onyx Boox Nova 3. I have used Pocketbook ereaders for 10 years. But I wanted to leave that platform because the build quality isn't great. Also, Android has improved wonderfully in the last decade.

The Pocketbook OS is focussed on reading ebooks. Other than the odd app like sudoku, there is little else you can do with it.

The Nova 3 has better built quality and the cpu and hardware are noticably better, the performance is really a great improvement. I miss the option to show the book cover when I turn off the Nova 3, as I could do on the Pocketbook.

I'm trying to make good use of the Android on the Nova 3. It would be nice to be able to handwrite in my Android diary software or my recipe app using the pen.
But I noticed that handwriting recognition on Nova 3 needs online connection. I wonder if there is a way to use handwriting offline. I haven't connected the Google Playstore yet, as I have no need for other apps like my diary or recipe manager if the handwriting cannot be used in offline mode.

Hello, you don't need an internet connection to handwrite using the default
note app, you can also convert your notes to text.
Beside that, you can also handwrite note on top of epub or pdf using the default reading app.

The Onyx keyboard has got handwriting recognition. It is offline of course. You have to download a wordbork for your chosen language.

Hi Underscore and Yokos,

Thanks for your help, I tried the handwriting option on the NEO Keyboard and it works really well, even in my native speech - Dutch - for which I downloaded an extra file.
I connected the Playstore and have my two apps running on the tablet and can edit with the pen and handwriting recognition.

I'm loving the Nova 3 for being able to read my ebooks and do the editing by handwriting if I feel like it.

I'm not using it but maybe you can find interesting a commercial product organizer consisting in a very well crafted big pdf file.
Give an eye to "My Deep Guide" youtube channel, aside his product, you will find very good device reviews

Hi Underscore,

It's really from the Deep Guide channel that I got on track of the Nova 3. There was excellent info on the different Onyx Boox readers, and that's why I bought the Nova 3 .

The PDF however doesn't really fit my need, and to be honest, I think it is too expensive if you compare it to modern apps. The year should be configurable IMO, and if you could use it for a couple of years then maybe.... I do appreciate the work that was put in, but at this price and functionality it just isn't hitting the right spot for me .

Thanks for the headsup though, good to share this kind of information. It will be useful for others as well.
