I've been using kindle's since 2015 and struggling with what I consider to be it's many annoyances blindly since then. I wish I had found this site sooner.

I finally got sick of Amazon's DRM and other restrictive measures and installed Epubor Ultimate and Calibre and just converted all 527 ebooks I own to mobi format stored on my PC so that I have the actual source that's readable on pretty much anything.

I've always kept my kindle in permanent airplane mode and downloaded books via usb but given that Amazon locks the books to the specific kindle serial number I was still locked in to pretty much using one device. Now I have all 527 books in 50 collections on all three of my kindles.

Anyway that's probably sufficient for an introduction.

As to Epubor Ultimate, it is based on the free tools by Apprentice Alf and Apprentice Harper. Whom they don't mention on their webpage, of course. So, instead of paying for Epubor, better install the original, freely distributed tools:
