				Forma: touch screen unresponsive

Suddenly my Kobo Forma won't respond to any touch screen actions anymore. I woke it up after a few days of inactivity, battery at 67%, the sync button started churning and it didn't respond. I thought it was because the syncing was hogging resources or something like that, like on Windows. I made it sleep, woke it, same thing. I restarted it, same thing.

Then I waited until the sync button wasn't churning anymore. But now it still won't respond. What it looks like is as though all touch screen functionality has been lost. I can switch it on or off with the button, and I have a hunch that if I'd left it with a book open instead of at the home screen the last time it still worked, the forward/backword buttons might still work. If I connect it to a computer I do get the question 'connect or just charge'. I just can't tap any of the answers. Is this a known failure of the device after a while or in certain circumstances? Is there a known remedy? |

Hm... Well, the spell is broken.

I left it on the charger for a while, switched on (just on the off chance it needed to do some updates or whatever). I took it off, still no dice. I restarted it again with a long press of the button, and suddenly it responds to the touch again. Oh, another symptom was it didn't respond to the gyroscope, i.e. didn't flip the screen when I held it upside down, as it's supposed to, when it was in that half frozen state. But now it seems back to normal. Anybody ever seen this? |

I've had the Forma and other Kobos lock completely. The fix that has always worked for me - hold power button down for about 30 seconds. Eventually it will do a hard reset and reboot the device. After that they have always worked fine.

Needing to reboot a Kobo is not all that unusual.. but in your first message, you explicitly say "made it sleep, woke it, same thing. I restarted it..." which let me to assume you *had* rebooted it..

How exactly, were you making it sleep, and what was different about restarting it? |

I don't know, I just don't understand. All I did was press the button in the side briefly to make it sleep or wake it from sleep, and press it longer to reboot.

It's all a bit mysterious, but it does seem to work again. |
