Reading stats: where are my books going?

This is a "first world" problem. I've owned my Kobo Forma for two to three years now. I'm a bookworm and read about two books a week. The Forma says I have read five books.

Most of my books are sideloaded Epubs (not Kepubs, this only changed recently). When I read an Epub, it is not added to the statistics.

However, I do read Kepubs purchased from Kobo and have recently started using the Kobo Extended plugin to convert sideloaded Epubs to Kepubs.

Recently I finished a Kobo-purchased Kepub, raising my number of completed books to five. Then I read a sideloaded Kepub, raising my number to six. Then I deleted the sideloaded book, reducing my number to five. Um... is there a way around this?

With respect to sideloaded books, the number of read books in the stats is the number of sideloaded books on the device that are in the "Finished" state. So, if you delete a finished book from the device, then your read count will drop.

For purchased books, it is different. If you remove the book (status shows as "Download") it is still counted. That is to do with the details of the books still being in the database. If you finish it on another device or app, I do not believe it will be included counted on all of them. I haven't played with this enough to be sure what happens.

Thanks for the answer.

I currently have over 900 books on my e-reader (I'm downloading books faster than I read them). I'm not hurt for space (even on "only" 8 GB) but I don't think I'll keep the books I've already read.
