File split question
I have noticed that sometimes during a Conversion, Calibre is splitting my chapter files where the first split contains only the Chapter Number (and any associated "decorations"), and the second split contains the actual Chapter text.
How do I prevent that from occurring? (In your answer, please be aware that I know nothing about regex programming, so if that's involved you'll have to be very patient with any followup questions.) Thanks in advance for your help. |

Preferences: Common Options:Structure Detection
controls splitting But good luck with adjusting that for your issue ![]() Why? Because there are coders out there who still seem to style with H tags. Both the lines have H tags in offending files. Thus they get split I happen to use the Editor to Simply change all but the First (what should be in the TOC) use to a P tag. I see no difference (assumes they have a Class= or Style ). |

You could add the following to your class for chapter titles:
page-break-after: avoid; I also use P tags and not H tags for all my classes. I use "chapter" for the top line in each chapter, and if there's a second line in each chapter (like if you have an anthology with the chapter title and the author's name underneath the chapter title), I use "chapter1." My chapter files never get split during conversion...and I don't have to add the line above to the "chapter" class. I'm not sure if the above line would help, if you're using H tags, but it might be worth trying. EDITED: To add some text about why you would need two chapter titles. Don't do the two lines of the Chapter heading as two paragraphs unless the second one is bodytext level!
Do Shift Return. Don't use page-break-after: avoid; because the problem is the Chapter heading structure. The paragraph style only needs Page break Before (and NO selected page style) in the wordprocessor. |

I may have been unclear: I'm not the author of these books, I'm just converting them in Calibre. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

Quote:
You have 3 choices: 1) disable splitting (remove the rule). 2) Fix it after the fact with the editor (a bit tedious, but not hard). Ctrl-7 (the shortcut) makes the selected tag into a P (prevents later splitting). then you merge the fragments in the file browser (the tedious part). Diaps toolbag PI can help IF the additional H# tags can be isolated (different class/style) 3)Return the book with a complaint about sloppy code and not buy from that Author/publisher until the clean up their act. 4) (OK, I lied ![]() |

Apologies. For some reason I thought that deback and Quoth were leading me into ebook creation territory...
