[Solved] What is BookReader.sqlite database file?
I got BookReader.sqlite, BookReader.sqlite-shm and BookReader.sqlite-wal in my .kobo device directory:

As you can see, BookReader.sqlite* files haven't been modified for a while. So what are BookReader.sqlite* files? And can I just delete all three of them? Last edited by codychan; 09-03-2021 at 10:45 AM. |

No, you shouldn’t delete them. Though I am rather surprised by the shm and wal files since they are used during a database update and should disappear after the update is finished.
Edit: Just checked on my Forma and the BookReader.sqlite file is the only one in place and it is a massive 894KB compared to your 429MB. I now suspect that back in Dec., 2020, your BookReader.sqlite file was damaged. A signout/signin should fix this though I'd suggest grabbing a copy of your KoboReader.sqlite file and restoring it after the signin. BTW, the predictive keyboard app I was testing is a piece of crap and has now been removed from my iPhone. Last edited by DNSB; 09-02-2021 at 01:04 AM. |

BookReader.sqlite is largely used for some of the information related to Kobo Plus and library borrowing. I understand it gets used for other things, but, I don't know what they are. From my experience, it should be fairly small. I would only expect a large size like that if you are borrowing books from Kobo Plus. Removing it isn't a real problem. But, if the sync fails afterwards, using the account repair should fix it.
And as @DNSB added, with the timestamp and the existence of the two extra files, that database is almost definitely broken. The two extra files should only exist for a short time as changes are made to database. When they are committed they should disappear. Delete the three files and let the device recreate them. |
