searching across multiple libraries
I have my books in multiple libraries, generally one per author, and find it a pain that when I do a search it only searches the then-current library. Is there a way to have searches cross library boundaries?
Also, I suppose I should have used virtual libraries instead, but didn't know about them when I started this. If I can't do the above, then, is there an easy way to move multiple libraries' contents into matching virtual libraries? Thanks in advance! Fred |

??? If your Libraries are by Author, why would you need a VL?
The Tag browser can do that filter. You can combine Calibre Libraries fairly ![]() In all cases The Target will be 'Mainlib' (or the name you chose). It must exist Simply View the source Library: Select all Books (ctrl-A): right click: Copy to Library: Delete (entry)after copy: Mainlib Repeat for each source Library You can later remove all the empty libraries using the OS (there will be no Author folders if Calibre thinks it has done them all) |

Thanks for the reply!
Having taken a quick look-see, I don't see how to do a search via tag browser. Can you divulge a hint? Re virtual libraries, I mention that only because upon reading the docs therefor, it seems as if doing that instead of separate physical libraries would allow cross-VL searches. I'm happy with another method, if I can figure it out. |

The Tag browser respects IF a VL is in force (A VL tab is selected). Otherwise it is for ALL books in the Library
A VL is not a merged view of multiple physical libraries. (see my instructions above on how to make a Singl Library out of many) |
