Firmware Update Dark mode on Kindle PW4

Hi,
I just updated my kindle from 5.10.2 to 5.13.3 as I read here dark mode was available. I've been jailbroken the whole time and never connected to WiFi. I still don't have Dark Mode... can anyone shed some light on the situation? Cheers

The end of the article does say you need to keep WiFi on in order for the feature to show up. I assume that’s why you are not seeing it.

We can only speculate about why updating the firmware alone is not enough to turn on the feature. I am guessing they want to have good metrics on how many Kindles have a given update installed and are still in active use, and the only way to do that is to enable only after the device calls home.

I don’t think they particularly care that you have jailbreak except it probably voids any warranty that would otherwise be in effect.

If I was to connect to WiFi the kindle would update and un-jailbreak right? Or can I force stop it from updating?

I would expect the Dark Mode feature to wake up (I cannot remember how long it took after I manually updated — and without ever turning off WiFi), and it seems you have already applied the necessary update, and jailbreak is intact.

Others will have to provide advice about how to prevent another update from downloading. My Kindle Touch has jailbreak, but I don’t have to worry about updates for it.

You might be caught in a catch-22.

You can prevent updates by renaming the OTA programs, but that might (or might not) prevent enabling the feature you want.

You should be searching and asking in the Kindle Developers sub-forum.

I installed renameota through KUAL and went online. The next day Dark mode had installed itself and now I'm in airplane mode on 5.13.3
