Kobo Clara HD 2019 hiccups

Had my e-reader for over 2 years with no problems but, in the last few days this begun to happen:

Unit flickers trying to go to sleep while I am reading, it does it totally at random several times and then goes away.

I don't have a clue why this is happening after reading almost 200 books.

Have you tried checking if there is an update for your unit?

I created an account to tell you that I am having the exact same issue with my two year old Kobo Clara. The comfort light flickers so badly it's a bit like having a strobe light in my room.

Do either of you use a sleepcover (one that turns the device off and on, via a magnet)? If so, does the problem persist if you remove the cover?

And make sure that sleep cover is disabled in settings (whether you own a sleep cover or not).

I do not use a sleep cover and at John F suggestion turned off the sleep cover settings. I think it's actually broken as it is still flickering and eventually doesn't even enable.
