Does the factory jailbreak still work?
I'm considering buying a Kindle Oasis (or maybe a PW4) and jailbreaking it to have some fun with Linux.
Is the factory jailbreak still possible to do with a new Oasis or PW4? Thanks! - khitan |

Yes and no. The jailbreak still works so long as your device is under 5.13.3. However, newer devices fresh from the factory tend to be updated to a later firmware (at least that's what I'm hearing).
Unless you can guarantee buying an old stock, a few people have recommended a kobo for all your tinkering needs. Last edited by 0x6c616d70; 08-08-2021 at 06:39 PM. |

If necessary, could I do the serial jailbreak on a new Oasis?

i did buy a PW4 from amazon in germany around 2 weeks ago and could jailbreak it without issues (KindleBreak). i don't know if it was "old stock" or not, but it worked without issues for me and had firmware 5.12.4.

i currently don't have the perl interprer installed so i looked into the source of the script manually, seems my Kindle Paperwhite is from 2018 even though i bought it just around 2 weeks ago. "G0016T - Twilight Blue Kindle PaperWhite 4 (2018) WiFi, 8GB" |

Model: Twilight Blue Kindle PaperWhite 4 (2018) WiFi, 8GB Made: 20x1 Week 5 Day 1 couldn't edit that in my last post since it was already older than 5 minutes when i got that info so i didn't wanted to double post. but i don't know how to interpret the "Made" part. does that mean that it got produced in the 5. week on day 1 of year 2018? |

![]() so in theory this should mean that the chance is high that if op buys a paperwhite now, that he gets one with a firmware that is still jailbreakable - or? |

I would say the chance of a new kindle not being jailbreakable keeps getting higher. Since there are almost no reports of model name, firmware version, purchase date and manufacture date, we are just not going to know the risk.
