I can't un-select a book

I'm sorry for asking such a newbie type question but occasionally whilst scrolling through my booklist I accidentally select one that then highlights in blue. I can't figure out how to un-select it. Tried clicking in another part of the screen, right-clicking, double clicking.

On Windows, [Ctrl] plus mouse left-click on the the selected book will un-select it.

The next book you select will just switch unless you hold the CTRL key (The Toggle, second time click will work when there is more than 1 selected)
This is Standard windows selection

Thanks jackie_w and theducks. Sorry to say it doesn't quite work. The books are listed alternate white and grey in the library. You can see it better on the white ones. Ctrl + left click just gives a fainter blue highlight on my laptop, not a full removal.

I see what you're saying. It doesn't look like there is a way to have no book selected. Even when I first start Calibre, the top book in my list is selected. No matter what I do, I can't get to a state where no book is selected...Even if I hold down the ctrl key and click, there is still a faint blue box where I ctrl-clicked, and the book summary still shows on the side.

I think it may depend on your definition of "not selected". If I un-select as in post #4 then press 'read book' or 'edit metadata' or 'convert book' it gives me an error that says "No book selected". However the previously-selected book still remains in the Book Details panel.

You can also un-select all books by left-clicking in the empty space below the last book in the list or to the right of the rightmost column. Either of these may be inconvenient depending on your book list layout.

Thanks Shalym. Jackie_w, that was my worry actually, I was concerned I might, for example, delete a book not realising it was selected. If it pops up Nothing Selected then it becomes a non-issue. Many thanks.
