FictFact replacement

I recently heard about a new site that just started operating this year.

It's called Books on Track:
https://booksontrack.net

It doesn't have every bit of functionality that FictFact did, but it is much better than any other suggested replacement I've seen. I exported my data from Goodreads and was able to import it in a fairly decent state (some review cleanup was necessary). Since the site is new, there are missing books/series, but it is very easy to report/suggest missing information.

There's a thread on Goodreads about it, and the developer is pretty prompt about responses.

I'm at the old "chicken and egg" stage with Books on Track. On one hand, I feel like waiting to begin using it because so far it's content is far less than what FictFact had. On the other hand, I recognize that it won't get to a an equivalent level of content without help from users. To paraphrase The Clash: "Should I use or should I wait?"

One reason I prefer LibraryThing. I have to log my books because my house is effectively a library...

Looks like the main point of the site is to track upcoming releases and next series books, which is useful for some series addicts like me. That said, I'm usually too lazy to load too much information on some of these sites. I'll try it out today and see what I think.

I was adding series I follow and they don't have any of the smaller authors, indies, or small press I follow. I don't have time or energy right now to add all those series and load all that info. They do have the bigger name authors so far.

I've found that the developer is responsive to requests to add items.

The main search page and each series page has a "Something missing?" link. I've been using links the Goodreads series' pages for their info.

Very similar to the link FictFact had (as I remember than when FictFact was beginning, it had the same time).

Well, you can have your account be private. Or employ a user name and email that can’t be traced to you and then who’s to know? I personally wouldn’t/don’t link my GR account to Amazon, as Jeff’s got plenty of data from me anyway and neither site seems to put what they know about me to use in ways that would help me. There is nothing, nothing in the thousands of books I’ve listed as read at GR that would lead any sentient person, much less less algorithm, to conclude that I’m interested in cowboy romances. The people who pay to have their books promoted are being cheated if my experience is anything to go by.

I admit that I’ve thought it would be nice to be able to conceal the occasional book I’m logging from my public profile. And I’m not talking about porn in general or some of its more extreme variants, just the odd guilty pleasure - so I can see where that would be a dealbreaker for some resulting in either a private profile or an alternate persona. I also admit that GR has become less useful to me over time, as marketing has crowded much of the useful intel off my first screen. I’m much more likely now to log and go, instead of seeing what my cronies have been up to. Still, it’s there, it’s handy enough for my purposes and I’m not motivated to move on.

You do not have to share everything (or anything) you read to Goodreads, even with GR account linked to Amazon. It is entirely your choice what to share.
