How to convert book from within the basic edit metadata window

The title says it exactly, I'm trying to mod calibre by adding a convert ebook button on the basic edit metadata window screen or something similar. I can delete unwanted formats from in there but would be nice to be able to convert from that location without having to cancel out of singular ebook edit window.

I've searched google and this forum for the better part of the day but cannot find it. Been repeatedly helped from here a few times and am daring to try it again.

I searched in ond out of calibre but can't seem to put my finger on it.

IMHO this is not a great idea.
The MDE window has NOT posted any changes to the DB, thus any convert launched from there runs the possibility of including Stale Metadata and

the possibility of losing the book, if you had changed the key field data (authors or title)

okay, I "hear" you. is it possible to remap a key I do not use in there like:
- remove cover
- set cover from selected format
- set metadata from selected format

I've never used any of these or will it break it? don't really want that either.

oh and I forgot in case it matters,
using calibre x64 up to date on win 10proNx64 also up to date.

You don't need to use the MDE window to delete formats, there's an option in the Remove books tool… Remove files of a specific format from selected books

Give it a shortcut, I use Alt+Del

Thank you BetterRed but am looking for a way to convert the currently selected ebook from within the basic edit metadata window screen to the pre-selected epub,as the button I put on my main calibre toolbar whis is already available from within the preferences.

The delete format works quite well as the rest of the software IMHO, as soon as either next or ok is selected, the delete happens flawlessly time after time. Would simply be nice to have the option to convert from within the window, anyhow, not worth all the fuss, I thought I'd ask if there were an easy way I hadn't found.

Thank you very much, on a second note, it's funny as nearly all the times I asked a question, if not every time, it was answered by either yourself, Mr. BetterRed, Mr. theducks or by the venerable Mr. Goyal.

Here again, I use the "Mr." as a mark of respect, not as gender-specific Tech requirement of being Male, I do not know your genders except Mr. Goyal...

Perhaps you should re-read @theduck's reply to your post. He made it clear that any changes to metadata made in the MDE will not be committed until you exit the MDE (you do notice that if you hit cancel, you are warned that all unsaved changes will be lost?). So unless you want to use the MDE to update metadata, exit the MDE to save any changes to the database and re-open the MDE to convert the ebooks, your workflow is very likely to have "interesting" results.

You might want to check the Action Chains plugin to see if it can handle your desired workflow.

Curious. You imply opening/closing the MDE is slow.

, thus needing to convert from there.

It is almost instant if there are no changes that cause the book to move (author or title changes).
Note: I tend to use the Hot keys for many tasks. C, E, T, ^D see lots of use.
I know BR shuns the rodent.

Well, thank you all for the inputs,

they say you gotta crack some eggsto make an omelette...
I ain't cracking this particular proverbial golden egg, there's nothing wrong with it.

I did set up a keyboard shortcut to convert but I'll stick with the button I put on the main bar a while back, works fine for me.

'C" is the default Convert shortcut out of the box. There should have been nothing to set up.
The only reason I leave many icons is to (infrequently) use the right click options that don't have (and not worth using up letters because of how little I use them. )
