Calibre downloading tags in Chinese instead of English
Hello,
I've been using Calibre for many years with no problems. Generally, I install a few plugins to help lookup metadata and covers from various sites, but otherwise I don't change the settings. Recently, I re-installed windows and then re-installed Calibre. After getting it set up, I imported a few books and found that it was downloading tags in Chinese (everything else is still in English). Now to be fair, I live in Taiwan, but Calibre has never downloaded tags in Chinese before. I'm not sure how to change it. There does not appear to be a setting anywhere. I've checked metadata providers - Google is set to US and the others don't provide any specification. I've tried turning off "Tags" in metadata download; no change. I've tried turning off "Tags" for individual metadata providers. No change. I can't understand why Calibre is suddenly doing this after years of just downloading English tags and metadata. Link is to photos showing tags downloaded and contrast between old/new imports. https://imgur.com/a/HfgZdCE Thanks for any help or insight provided. |

You will need to look at each metadata source to see which it is. I can see you are using Kobo, Google and Amazon. One of those must be returning Chinese tags. You can disable them and test individually to see which it is. But, if you click the links in the results, it will open the pages that the metadata came from and see which is in Chinese.

Thanks. After a bit of experimentation, it seems that both Kobo and Google are downloading the Chinese tags.
But if I disable tags from both of those sources, I get no tags whatsoever. Is there any way to make google use google.com instead of google.com.tw? Or same for the Kobo? I don't see any setting for it. Something in a config file, perhaps? |

Neither Google or Kobo have have options to configure the site used. Google is part of calibre.
But, the Kobo Books metadata source plugin is one of mine. It uses the generic site which gets redirected to the local search. It has been requested before to be able to configure which country and language. I'll probably look at it again soon. |
