Prevent news from being deleted

Is there a way to tell Calibre not to automatically delete news? In order to set the number of days to an absurdly high number, which I assume would effectively prevent deletion, I have to hold down the little arrow forever - there is no provision to simply type in a large number.

Surely there's some way to tell it that I want to handle deletions manually? Would (paradoxically) setting it to 0 work? (I'm hesitant to try that, for obvious reasons).

If you hover your mouse over that control you will get a tooltip that will answer your question.
