Can I batch add tags OUTSIDE of Calibre?
would like to be able to add tags outside of Calibre, before I import to Calibre and I have been trying to use exiftool but without success.
the tool thinks it has succeeded but after import calibre sees no added tag. should it be/is it possible to do this? I'm talking a custom tag here, like we do so easily within Calibre. Like maybe 'booksfromjim', that sort of thing |

woops.... not quite as good as I thought.... turns out it replaces all tags, doesn't append. I can still use it for what I want, which is to bring books into calibre in large number chunks and know where each chunk came from etc - and most of them have no existing tags at all... but a shame to destroy their existing tags when they do have them... an append just the same as in calibre itself would be great...

Write a script that calls ebook-meta to read the tags then call it again with those tags append.

I can't get it to work nohow. Write, yes, append, no. And I've tried pymupdf and spent a couple of hours with chatgpt.
p.s. that's pdf files I'm talking about. ebookmeta doesn't seem to like them. Last edited by abrogard; 12-22-2024 at 09:00 PM. |
