Internet speak
I expect I'm not the only one who gets confused by internet speak - abbreviations or words that are used by people posting on message boards or other Internet spaces.
Recently I was browsing various product forums including Reddit and I thought there were an awful lot of topics reporting being fooled by products or companies. Eventually I figured out that in forum-speak, "dupe" is an abbreviation for "duplicate" and has nothing to do with the traditional definition of the word. So I guess I was duped by internet-speak

The older I get the more that is true for me too. I'm retired and live alone with no kids or grandkids to expose me to the current internet speak. I google those things a lot!
One the other hand, I'm sure they would look blankly at me if I talked in the street lingo of 1960s and 1970s! "Hey man, you got a doobie?" "Breaker One Nine." "Keep it on double nickels, Smokie is around the corner." "Oh my, did you see that streaker cross the field during the game?"

"Turn clockwise."
"It's a quarter to four." "Telephone dial." And a lot more I've forgotten. I use Google to clear up confusing abbreviations all the time these days. |

Plenty of analog clocks still in use and still being sold.
