How to Refresh the Library
I have recently gone through my E-book Library and standardized the author's names, and tweaked the meta-data. I have also made a number of edits to my own E-books, etc. I would now like to refresh my Library.
Is this the same as: Save to Disk > Save only ePub format to Disk ? What if I "move" the Library to the same place? What if I Delete my Library, and then did a Save to Disk > Save only ePub format to Disk ? I guess I just want to render/export all books again... (Is the library the source of info, or just the book shelf of exported good-copies of each book? (is it live or static?)) How do you recommend I re-export everything? Thank you in advance! |

If you used Calibre (edit Metadata tools), the Library IS REFRESHED. Nothing else needed (but a freh backup never is a bad idea)
Some folk like to EMBED the corrections into the book (calibre does not update books by default). There are at least 3 tools: Embed Metadata, Polish and the Modify EPUB plugin. |

Thank you.
What do you mean that the Library is refreshed if Calibre doesn't update books by default? So, is Embedding Corrections with those tools something like re-exporting all of my books? What happens if I embed corrections? Where do I get those tools? (How do I install them?) Do you have a favorite? So, do these plugins "keep my library more-refreshed" Thanks for your help here. I am trying to understand. I really like E-books. |

By Refresh, do you mean like when Amazon releases a correction?
NOT AUTOMATIC (nor even fetched. There is no connection to the publisher / seller of any kind) Simply drop the Update into the Details (main GUI) or the Format section (MDE) and it replaces the existing BOOK FORMAT The first 2 tools are BUILT IN. You may need to add the to the toolbar via Preferences: Behavior: toolbars The last (modify EPUB) can be added via Preferences:get plugins |

So, every time I go to EDIT BOOK, and edit the HTML, it automatically refreshes the ePub in the Library? (or do I have to export it again?)
I was confused what happens when I update the metadata. On a number of my books, I added new cover images. When I went to open the book to read from it, it only had the OLD cover image at the start, while the EDIT METADATA page continued to show the new cover image. Okay, I will look up those tools. |

Editing the file saves the changes you made in the file. Editing the metadata saves the changes to the Calibre database. For saving the metadata in the file itself you need to export or use the tools mentioned above.
In short there's a difference in saving the changes in metadata and the changes in the file itself. The editor (Edit book) changes the file, so no need to export or embed afterwards. "Edit metadata" changes the database, not the file, hence the need to export or embed. Last edited by Sirtel; 04-09-2021 at 11:44 AM. |

Thank you for the clarity!
I will go look at those tools above, and look for those results mentioned. |
