Mit dem 3-bändigen Roman "Sclaverei in Amerika oder Schwarzes Blut" (1862, 262, 272 & 331 Seiten; 3 Abteilungen: "Die Quadrone", "Die Mulattin" und "Die Negerin") reagierte Armand (d.i. Friedrich Armand Strubberg) auf die Kernfrage des Amerikanischen Bürgerkriegs, der 1861 begonnen hatte; seit Harriet Beecher-Stowes "Onkel Toms Hütte" war auch in Deutschland das Sklavenhaltersystem der nordamerikanischen Südstaaten zunehmend kritisch betrachtet worden, so auch von Armand.
