Question Affiliate Was Ignored

I purchased my Clara through Indigo, so my affiliate.conf reads:
Code:
[General]
affiliate=Indigo
However, when I had to factory reset yesterday, Walmart was bright and beautiful on the login page. I wouldn't worry about it if I wasn't so enamored with the quick firmware rollouts I get from being affiliated with Indigo.

What else do I need to change (and why)? Shouldn't Indigo be the default provider for my unit?

Did you re-check the .conf file after the update? Probably that the reset mis-resetted it or something... Or it could be deeper in the firmware, somewhere that I wouldn't know about...
Otherwise, try rebooting again.

I did. It still says Indigo, but offered Walmart branding during setup, not Indigo.

I’m worried about it being deeper in the settings somewhere. I’d like to suss that out before I factory reset again for no reason.

Is it possible that the Kobo was branded Walmart in the setup based on my IP location, here in the States?

I couldn't help you much with that. I don't know very well Nickel's internal workings with affiliates, maybe someone else will have a clue.
I don't think that it would be your IP, I could as well have bought my Libra (which is from the official Kobo store) at the local Walmart here, which is less than 1km away, so definitely not that.

It is probably the last. As far as I can work out, they use IP location to decide. But, they might also use model or serial number. The reason I am not sure is that I have different affiliates for my older devices than my newer ones. These match who was selling them at the time, but, not necessarily who I bought them from. And the Forma, which I bought from Kobo directly, has Kobo as the affiliate. That suggests it is not just the IP and its supposed location.

For the setup, I would expect the signup choices to be based on the IP location. I do get the Australian book stores. But, the store I bought the last couple of devices from is not there as it does not have a book store. But, it is what the affiliate has been set to.

I'll consider this "mystery solved" then. Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully, I'll continue to get the firmware rollouts at the front of the queue as I've grown accustomed to.
