Finding all references to a column in templates
If I want to rename a column, is there any way to find all references to it in various templates (composite columns, column icon rules, plugins that use it)?

IIRC You can only change the Visible (column title) name. The #lookup can not be changed.
Isn't that what you use in formulas?

Not that I know of, other than searching the content of the files in the config folder and the library metadata_db_prefs_backup.json file(s).

The lookup-name can be changed, but it will only cascade into book metadata, not into stored templates, search expressions etc.

I can change the lookup
