When MR meets TSG

I'm posting this here because it was literally a reading recommendation. The StoryGraph has just upgraded its recommendations engine, both in algorithm (already good) and the size of its library - up from 200K books to 1.5M.
On the first page of my newly updated recommendations, I saw much more SF, including one that instantly made me think of MR, can't for the life of me think why.

Why are so many books listed without the ISBN?

ISBN refers to an EXACT format, not just revisions, thus the SAME content in Hardback, large print, pocketbook-mass-market, Trade, book club editions, publishers with different geographic limitations, etc will all have different ISBNs.
ISBNs are for ordering a currently available version in a bookshop. It's equivalent to an EAN-UPC for a mythical country called bookland as the first three digits are usually 978 instead of the three digits on EAN-UPC which are a real country code.
The last digit is a check digit.
They work with EAN-UPC POS (Till) systems like in a supermarket or any other non-bookstore.

An identical size and content novel by USA and UK publishers will have a different ISBN, because the digits identifying the supplier/maker/distributor/publisher are after the the country code. Those are a variable number of digits and a supplier/maker/distributor/publisher using ISBN-UPC-EAN may have more than one range purchased at different times.

I've successfully searched the internet for reading recommendations for years without once considering an isbn.
