The message in the title is what I received on screen when connecting my Kindle Fire HD to Calibre, and the following is what was suggested I paste - thanks!

Firstly, you're using an old version of Calibre. Download the latest version from the Calibre homepage and if you still get the error, post the resulting message in the Calibre -> Devices subforum:
