When converting a .docx file to an EPUB, I sometimes end up with span tags. These usually show up in unordered bulleted lists, but not all the time. (The point being, I do not want or need them)
. I am wondering if it is something I am unintentionally doing in Word, or a setting I have in Calibre. . I am a strict user of styles in Word, in case you are wondering.

Are they spans with classes or empty spans?

With classes.
I did find a little bit of a pattern, tonight. (The pattern in the lists was from memory) They are often in the same paragraphs with superscript numbers, which were footnotes in Word and are end notes in the EPUB. I can post an example if that would help.

What happens if you remove spans? If you cannot remove the spans without something changing that you don't want, as @DNSB said, Live with it.

Not all style properties sensibly map to ebook HTML and CSS.
I make a small test document for any style change or new property. |

It's not a deal breaker for me, but it would save time to not have to remove them all. ![]() Is there a was in Calibre to say, "Never use spans."? |
