Kindle Paperwhite Collections
None of my content is on Amazon's cloud, as I don't want it there. I have hundreds of personal documents and of course some side loaded books. I've had three Paperwhites since 2012. I've successfully transferred all of my content to each new Paperwhite without the Amazon cloud.
Copying the Documents folder (CONTENT) over to a new Kindle works. I have a WORD.docx detailing it. I won't post it. The issue I still don't understand is the Collection function. While copying the Documents CONTENT over gives me all of my eBooks and personal documents, including highlights and notes, it doesn't handle sorting those hundreds of things into my previous collections. Downloading a new book (I side-load) restores all of my Collection organizations! Has to be from Amazon's cloud. Nice! But I don't understand it. I see the Collections under Content on Amazon's website, but there isn't any content because all of my content is local/side-loaded/downloaded. Just curious, thanks for any replies! |

Learned something, for what it is worth..
All Collection organization is stored on the Amazon cloud, even if you keep no content there. You can browse to your content page and see the Collections. If you click on the All-Collections view, you can also see the titles of the content even though it is just a title and cover page. You cannot delete these. It says you can, but they just come right back. If you move content around or delete it on your Kindle and are not connected to the Internet, these Collection organizations won't update, even when you do connect. You have to have WiFi on for the Collection organization in the cloud to change. So, you can have a lot of items shown in these online Collections that are no longer valid. The only way to correct this is to delete the Collection online, then recreate it on your Kindle and add the items back in while being connected. So, to keep the cloud Collection organization correct, always have WiFi on when you move, add, or delete items. |
