Javascript interface no longer working with iPad iOS 10.3.3

Coming back to Calibre after some time and just upgraded from late v3 (where the js interface was working great on my iPad Pro 10.3.3) to v5.7.2, where the js interface no longer works - it just sits on the "Loading, please wait..." screen.
Looking at the support information it appears it should still work - does anyone know if this is a permanent issue now?
Like many, upgrading my iOS is not an option, not least because I would lose all 32bit apps of which I have a significant number that I would miss.
The support pages say iOS 10.3.2 or newer is required, but if 10.3.3 is an exception does anyone know what Calibre version I could safely downgrade to?

If you've upgraded to 5 the database has been upgraded as well, and the lowest version of calibre that will work is 4.23 so downgrade to that and see.

Thanks, 4.23 works fine.
The only thing that occurred to me that might contribute to the issue with 5.7.2 was that I dont recall the firewall exception prompt being presented when I installed it, whereas I was prompted on install of 4.23 (Windows 10 Pro 64-bit).

as far as I know the server should work fine in 5.x, add an exception for it in your firewall and see.

OK, I re-installed 5.7.2 - definitely got the firewall prompt this time, so perhaps I just missed it last time - but still no js server interface apart from the "Loading" message...
Uninstalled and re-installed 4.23 again, without rebooting, and js interface now working again fine... curious.
