Good french dictionary
Hi,
Anyone would have the dictionary "Le nouveau Littré" (it's a modern version of a french dictionary called "Le Littré") ? I can't find it... Thank you in advance for your response ![]() Last edited by akorx; 03-04-2020 at 03:18 PM. |

dicthtml-fr.zip there, probably, a lot of garbage (extra characters) will be in original dictionary. try it (reconstructed) dicthtml-fr.zip Last edited by Semwize; 03-04-2020 at 01:32 AM. |

Is there even an electronic edition of it? I've seen a couple of copies from 2006 or so at a French immersion school but it's not one of the ones that their library had as an electronic edition.

Hi Semwize,
First thank you very much for your help. I've tried a little, it works with no extra characters... but when I search a conjugated verb, it doesn't find it. I thought it was better. Perhaps your dictionay is not the complete version? => I can't find a really good french dictionary like "Le petit Robert", "Le grand Robert", "Hachette ", or "Le Larousse", etc. Where can I find a good french dictionary (modern and complete) ![]() Last edited by akorx; 03-05-2020 at 04:18 AM. |

I have no idea, I do not know French language)
The dictionary you requested contains ~ 70,000 word count. This one, for example, ~ 123,500 Petit Robert contains 55,295 word count You would decide. I can make it, or you look for a better source. Last edited by Semwize; 03-04-2020 at 04:18 PM. |

The 123,500 words is the old "littré" (date : 1860-1876 !)... the zip file has got a size of 40 Mo.
In the new version called "Le nouveau Littré" they seem to have added 20,000 words so it the reason why I've tried to find it... so I think the size is greater, but yours has a size of 8 Mo, so it's why I think it's not the full version. |

Hi,
I haven't seen : your dicthtml-fr.zip is not "Le nouveau Littré" but "Le micro robert", so that explain the size of 8 Mo. So, "Le nouveau Littré" could be the good one... now : where can we find it ? |

I absolutely do not understand you.
'Le micro Robert' contains 35,000 words. 'Le nouveau Littré' contains 70,000 words. Why did you make such a conclusion then? In the dictionarie that are above: Quote:

I wanted to say : I have tested your zip file, it's not the "Nouveau Littré" but "Le micro Robert"... when I search a verb that is conjugated (for example in english to explain, I search "gave" and not "to give"), the word is not found, and it's the reason why I said that "Le micro Robert" is not very good and I would like to test "le nouveau Littré" but I can't find it. PS : - the ancient "Littré" is 123,500 words, and we can see on the web that they have add 20,000 words too this old version to create the "Nouveau Littré" so I think it could be the best version (now integrated on devices like bookeen, tea, etc but not on kobo) - perhaps we can find in stardict format (= can be convert to a format running on kobo) Last edited by akorx; 03-05-2020 at 04:48 AM. |

That is, you checked the paper version and found a mismatch, or is it just your guess?
I gave you the direct link to the source above. Where it is clearly indicated that it is 'Le nouveau Littré'. Have you checked the paper version? in source: Le Nouveau Littré©Littre 2011 Last edited by Semwize; 03-05-2020 at 05:00 AM. |

sI have tested the paper version in a shop... with my old dictionary on my kobo, all is OK (=with old version of the Littré), but we can't find a lot new words or the definition is not good when we live in 2020. It's not easy for me to give a example, but I will try :
- with ancient Littré you search "bagnole", it answers that it's a "Kind of railway wagon for transporting horses" (= definiton of 18th century !) and in 2020 it means that it's a bad car. - other example with a word in english to explain : you search "chick", you can't find it because it's a modern word for "girl". On the modern Littré, thoose examples are correct. On your post #361, you have sent a link to a dicthtml-fr.zip but this link is the "micro Robert" and not the "Nouveau Littré". And to finish : Quote:

Spoiler:
I don 't see any differences with the laid out dictionary above. Recommendations for you: you need to download several dictionaries and combine them into one, then you will get about what you want, it is quite easy to do. Look for dictionaries for example here |

I think that in France, for unknown reasons, distribution is prevented.
