Sorting by FIRST name and FULL title
How do I select sorts for the following:
A full name, not by the last name but a sort that begins at the first letters in the first name. As if the name is just a string of text A full title, do not use sort names that shift "A" "The" (other?) to the end. I want all the A... and The.. to be together. I need these because I am doing a lot of comparisons to text lists of books that I can only easily sort by the name or title. And it is a pain that Calibre sorts in a fashion that is not conducive. Perhaps it is helpful in other situations. I have looked over the options for sorting and I cannot choose to treat the author and title fields as a string of text. The choices are very rigid for the choices of columns on the listing of books. Suggestions please. |

Preferences: Tweaks <sorting keyword>
(You did ask for suggestions ![]() The other keyword is: Library Order (which you Don't want to use that mode) ![]() And BEFORE you start: Backup tweaks.py and tweaks.json (in the configuration folder) (these are a PAIR. and should be restored together) |

An option I'm known to use us to make a catalog of the library, get it into Excel and sort however I want, and then do comparisons in Excel.

Another option is to make composite column and call it sort. You change the template for this column according to your needs at the time. To do the sort you talked about in your post, you can use this template:
Code:
{authors} {title} |

Thanks to all, helpful suggestions and I have a solution. I elected to make a composite column, one for title and one for author, and replaced the standard title and author columns on the main browser for the ones that will give a full sort. Cheers!
