Kindle manual update forcing wifi
Hi, Was running 5.13.1 on my V7 paperwhite. On the 'zon website it stated 5.13.3 had performance improvements so I downloaded the files and updated. However, unlike the older f/w, amazon is now forcing wifi to 'setup' the kindle.

How can I get the 5.13.1 f/w, or bypass this demand by 'zon? I don't use wifi.

I don’t understand, always do load the file and update my kindle manually. But don’t have the kindles with cellular.

I've manually updated many Kindle firmware versions and not a single one has ever asked for WiFi to be turned on.

I've been manually updating for years w/o any problems. This is the first time zon is placing the 'setup via wifi (not cellular)' in the process without a way to bypass this.
Do you have v 5.13.3 installed?
I also tried 5.13.2 which did the same thing. Unfortunately I must have deleted earlier versions

To make matters worse, the 5.13.3 'upgrade' deleted all my files thereby all my highlights and notes are gone.
Worst of all the reader now does not have landscape mode, only portrait. Hope I can find 5.13.1 somewhere!!!

It seems like something very strange happened with your update--it sounds like it reset to factory for some reason. Unfortunately, you can't downgrade a kindle unless it is jailbroken. Maybe you could try re-applying the update?
