Importing annotations and highlights from the same book located in another library
Hi everybody !
![]() I need to import in the selected epub book located in the current library the annotations and highlights which have been made on the same ebook (exactly the same epub book, this latter being an export from the former) located in another library. I don't know how to do, because the plugin "Annotations" doesn't seem to give me this possibility, a library being not an external device. Perhaps I missed something... Do you have the solution ? Thanks ! Jacques Last edited by BlackWinny; 11-26-2020 at 07:39 PM. |

The annotations are also saved inside the epub file (unless you turned it off) so simply replaceing the epub file in library one with the one from library 2 will do the trick.

![]() Thanks for your reply ! I turned this option off, because I share some of my books (those related to cooking, health, creativity...) with my wife (therefore in two distinct libraries, these shared books being then duplicated to be in both libraries), and the passages that I highlight or annotate on these books on my library are not necessarily the same passages that my wife wants to highlight or annotate on her library. Then in our case the highlights and annotations must be kept outside the books. Otherwise yes, it would have been a good solution. But there it is impossible, alas. Another simple reason is that I prefer to keep a book clean and have all the additions done outside its content, in prevention of any future events (giving a copy of the book to a family member or to a friend, for example). That said, here is the problem: for myself I don't use only one computer, but two computers, a big one and a small one. My problem is that in the night when I don't sleep I read my books on a Windows 10" tablet, not on my main computer. Thus I have on my tablet a full copy (more than 3.000 books) of the library of my main computer. So what I would like is, after having finished a book, to retrieve on my main computer's library the highlights I have done on my tablet on the current book. Accessing my tablet's library from the Calibre program of my main computer is easy (I do that way to copy occasional new books from the computer's library to the tablet's library using the ad-hoc function in the menu)... but I have not found how to retrieve on my main library the highlights made in the night on the tablet. The best solution would perhaps be a button "Import" on the Calibre-Viewer beside the button "Export" which is already present... In fact I confess that I don't even know what is the purpose of this button "Export" without a button "Import". ![]() But I'm pretty sure that it would be by far the optimal solution. The use of a content server would perhaps be another (general) solution... but I guess that it would need to have the main computer kept On permanently even in the night. Not a very "green" solution... ![]() ... except perhaps if the content server is not on the computer but on my NAS... but I don't know if it is possible to have a content server on a NAS... It is a Synology Diskstation. ![]() I'm a bit lost. ![]() Last edited by BlackWinny; 11-27-2020 at 09:18 AM. |

Importing is not implemented, because, annotations are tied to a specific location in a specific book, they dont really import well anywhere other than on the original book itself, which is usually pointless.
I suggest you simply temporarilyturn that option on, and copy the epub file. then turn it off. |
