Hi, I've messed up and my kindle is in a bootloop. I'm trying to enter the serial console now but I have kind of a ghetto setup.
I have a chinese arduino uno in "TTL" mode. RES -> GND RX -> 2nd PIN (from 1(left)) TX -> 3rd PIN Schematica from https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...55&postcount=1 My screen doesn't output anything over 115200 baud rate. When I run screen without the baud rate and remove the RES->GND short it then proceeds to dump ascii table onto my screen. There's also a button on the uno to re-dump the table when RES->GND isn't active. 1. Is the baud rate and connection scheme correct for B005 DX? 2. Is my screen /dev/ttyUSB0 115200 command correct? |

Okay, I went and got myself FTDI USB-to-TTL, it supports 5v or 3.3v.
The baud rate for Kindle DX (B005...) is 115200. I soldered the wires on the UART pads (left-to-right) (battery is closer to me): 1 - NO WIRE 2 - TX 3 - RX 4 - GND And connected them on the usb as follows (left-to-right): 1 - GND 2 - NONE 3 - NONE 4 - TX 5 - RX 6 - NONE https://i.imgur.com/qA164sA.jpeg I've never used screen that much so I had a hard time getting it to work properly. I got question marks inside boxes or "diamonds" as some of you may call them. Easy solution was to install minicom and point it to my usb device which also fixed the screen output as it was getting the output side-by-side with minicom. I ran minicom -s and changed the USB device and flow control. Last edited by k1ndle; 11-13-2020 at 08:41 AM. Reason: For the love of god, add some max-width to images.. |

I'm tempted to convert my DXG (B009) into an eink terminal. I know that's the other way round.
Allegedly a BT to serial adaptor fits inside the the case. |

The bluetooth adapter doesn't have a perfect fit, if I remember correct they had to cut the inner backplate (not the aluminum) to fit it snugly.
I have the same sort of a plan as you do but my idea would be to replace the 3G adapter with something that has wifi+3g or wifi+bt. I have heard of the "low power mode" on bluetooth but I have no idea whether it's just another marketing trick or it really does have a much better battery performance compared to wifi. |
