Kindle fell face-down

Hi.
I have Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 4 and it had a small accident yesterday. My cat was being crazy and running around and while racing through the armchair and a table it dropped my reader on the ground. Kindle fell face down. Despite the fact that it was turned off something must have happened because after turning it on, the screen is weird. I am not sure how to describe it. It is less sharp? You can still read the letters but it is more difficult and the light doesn't work, so reading in the dark is now impossible.
Can I open it and see what is wrong? Could it be something that I can fix or should I try to find a service or maybe buy a new one?

It doesn't sound like something you can fix. Fuzzy text in combination with no light sounds like the light guide layer at the front of the screen has, perhaps, come away from the text layer.

Although I've not heard of this happening before.

I suggest you give Amazon a call and find out if there's anything they can do for you. Maybe a discount on a new Kindle.

Any chance you could post a picture? I have no idea, but am curious about what you describe (the weird screen, less sharp).

Was it in a cover or case, I have dropped my kindles a number of times without issues, but I always have them in a protective case.

So the screen assembly for the current paperwhite looks to be glued together and probably isn't coming apart without a fight (there are a few disassembly videos on youtube) - there's a screen assembly on Aliexpress if you want to roll the dice and take your chances with that

However - looking at the system, there are three cables that go from the screen assembly to the main board - they all appear to be the standard snap-in-place connectors (and are sealed with an adhesive of some sort) but perhaps one of them came loose? you could pull the back off and push down on them to see if one or more of them has come partially unseated... otherwise, it's looking like new kindle time, unfortunately.
