downloading any version past 4.23

Hi,

I have tried each version and i just can't get any 5. versions to open, it downloads and the little icon jumps up and down on my screen then when i get the command to ok for open it just disappears and i have to go back and download 4.23 to be able to use calibre. I have read through the forum but not being computer savvy i just don't understand a lot of the lingo. I have been using calibre for year and years and never had this issue. I just don't know what i'm doing wrong. I have removed each version to the bin on my Mac and then start again but nothing seems to work. Any help appreciated.

Run calibre from Terminal.ap by typing the following command and pressing enter:

/Applications/calibre.app/Contents/MacOS/calibre

it should work. If it does it indicates the problem is in launch services on your mac. You will need to reset its cache, a bit of googling should give you the commands to do that.

Similar Issue

Hello,
I was browsing for answers on this forum because I seem to be experiencing similar issues. I've been using Calibre on macos, with no problem including with Catalina until I upgraded to version 5.42. Since then, the icon jumps up and down for a while and nothing happens. I've also tried erasing older files except for the library and reverting to older versions that used to work perfectly, etc. but no version of Calibre will open anymore.
I've tried running terminal, to enter the code mentioned above in the thread, but when terminal opened it read:

The default interactive shell is now zsh.
To update your account to use zsh, please run `chsh -s /bin/zsh`.
For more details, please visit https://support.apple.com/kb/HT208050.

and the command /Applications/calibre.app/Contents/MacOS/calibre does not work.
My computer capacity is very limited and I have no idea what to do! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Open Terminal.app, type the following command and press enter

/Applications/calibre.app/Contents/MacOS/calibre-debug -g

not sure if this will help, but i have managed to get my 5.42 to work. What i did was everything they told me, like following the command (/Applications/calibre.app/Contents/MacOS/calibre-debug -g) I removed the version i had to the bin and then downloaded it again and dragged into my application folder and opened it from there, somehow it started to work for me. So maybe try and drag it into you application folder and see if this works for you. I just keep at it and tried everything and eventually it worked. I hope this helps
