Validating a boolean search

I requested some sort of syntax highlighting for the search box, but it wasn't possible due to limitations of Qt.

When modifying very convoluted search queries, is there someplace I can put it in and test whether there's no mistakes with the syntax and hopefully point out where I missed a bracket or something? Lots of "crap, why did it turn red?" after modifying a saved search.

Even more difficult when the search is four-five times the length of the input box.

Have you tried Regex101.com's regex tester/debugger?

Does regex101 have a boolean search query validator?

Use the new template search function. The template editor supports highlighting. Using stored templates makes it easier to save complex template searches.

Can a template search be used for a VL?

Yes, they can be used in any search context, e.g., saved searches, vls, search bar.
