Nova As Big Kindle

Since I'm convinced Amazon is never going to make a larger screen device that isn't the awkward Oasis 3 (my current device) I'm considering getting a Nova 2 so I can have a big Kindle. Anyone used Boox devices for this and able to tell me what the experience is like?

Can you still take notes on Kindle App like usual (highlighting and some typed out notes)?

Also, if I don't use the Kindle App, is there a way to sync books between different Boox devices or between Boox and my iPhone in using any app?

I put all my books in Dropbox with Dropsync to sync books across all my devices. You can also use Google Drive with DriveSync.

I am using Boox Nova which don't have the pencil and can't take note. But I am happy as I use many Android app to read (e.g. Pocket to read online articles, other apps to read comics, also as there are not much Traditional Chinese book on Kindle I am using an app called Readmoo to purchase books.

I personally don't take notes so I couldn't give any comment on that.

Yes, I'm using my Nova 2 like that (along with Kobo and others). The Kindle app works exactly the same way it does on Android (and basically the same as iOS) if you used that, except now you have an eInk screen. Highlighting works, typing notes works, you can't use the pen for writing in the Kindle app (though it works for selecting stuff).

I really like it because I'm not locked into one ecosystem anymore. I think the pure Kindle reading experience is probably better on a Kindle, but the ability to use not just Amazon's store, read comixology stuff, from the library, etc. makes up for it IMO.

The built in reader also handles AZW3, PDF, mobi and ePub, and let's you write with the pen on those too which is pretty damn neat. If you have DRM-free copies of your books that's an option.

I think you can do some syncing with an Oynx account and their Boox assistant app but I haven't set that up yet. I did setup my notes to sync with dropbox and that has been awesome when using it as a notebook.

Dropbox app, Onedrive, Google Drive, etc. are options though too.

Thank you! That sounds fantastic for what I'm looking for. I also just discovered Google Play Books, but when googling found someone say it doesn't work on ereading devices. Does it work on Nova2?

Yup! Google Play Books works! There's a bit of process to enabling the Google Play store but after that I've had no trouble getting apps like Google Play Books on there. Also a good idea to turn off settings like "3D page turn animations" that don't play super nice with eInk.

Thats the benefit of Android. You can install any app you want or need. Onyx has also some tweaking possibilities to improve app behaviour regarding the view. Because all apps are designed for lcd displays. I installed Pocketbook as app. It works fine too.
The Reading experience of the kindle app is quite the same as on 8 inch tablet the only difference it the nicer eink screen

The Kindle DX originally sold for $479 so $199 is quite the bargain if you don’t mind having a Kindle that’s 10 years old. Even I’m tempted to buy one at that price, but then I realize I already have a better large screen Kindle in the form of the Onyx Note2 with the Kindle app.

I have a DX and it is good for what it is however the screen has no lighting at all and the text is not as fine/sharp as current models. They also seemed to sell out in an hour or two the day they dropped. Maybe they have more know. Just be aware it isn't anything at all like reading on a PW or Oasis, it's just bigger.

This is one of the reasons I ended up returning my Nova 2. Sure, you can technically running the Kindle app on it but the experience isn’t identical to using an actual kindle. The flashing and slowness that I experienced with Android apps that are NOT optimized for eInk screens turned me off.
