Likebook Mars frozen on boot screen and won't respond

The battery died overnight and when I plugged it in to turn it on this morning I think it got unplugged during the boot process. Now it's frozen on the "Starting up" screen and no amount of charging or pressing the power button seems to fix it. The progress squares never change, so I can only assume it's stuck powered off.
I upgraded to the Android 8.1 firmware a few weeks back. What can I do to backup the internal storage and reset the thing?

leave likebook on charge for several hours
press the power-button in and hold in ( for about 30 seconds or more) until likebook reboots(this is the standard android reboot procedure for a frozen android system)
if this does not work then

just turn likebook off (power-off)
reinstall 8.1 upgrade

Holding the power button for 30 seconds or longer doesn't seem to do anything and it's been charging since yesterday, so I'm going to try reinstalling Android 8.1. Is there any way to backup the internal storage in case it gets wiped?

Well my laptop doesn't detect it on USB, so I'm looking into getting a repair or refund or something. The important stuff was on the SD card anyway, so I can afford to lose the internal storage.

try to reinstall 8.1 upgrade
this is what happened to me when i upgraded to 8.1

hi , 1st attempted the update with the new (2nd ver. correcting the erasing error) see <https://twitter.com/BoyueTechnology/status/1298807003393847296>
my first time it loaded the firmware 100% rebooted 1 black screen erased then jumped to reboot then got stuck in a rebooting loop.I almost had a heart attack
2nd attempt I could not turn off so i plugged in usb cable held the power button in until window's prog could not detect device then quickly inserted paper clip to reset hole held it 3 sec then removed it .loader program detected.attempted upgrade. red fail a 5%.
3rd same steps as 2nd attempt. got to 17% red fail.
4th attempt same steps as 2nd attempt got to 100% it reset it self, black screen, jumped to reboot jumped to language selection and then wifi network selection for connection the jumped to home screen.you have to go to google-play.redoing you google account login.and reinstall any apps that you previously had installed.its very stressful
but if it fails just redo it .don't give up.

Well the problem is, my laptop doesn't detect it through USB. I've tried charging it, holding the power button for over 30 seconds, and holding the reset button while plugging it in, but nothing works. As far as I can see, the device is bricked.

I tried holding the power button for more than 30 seconds then holding the reset button and plugging it into my laptop several times. Like I said, it just isn't being detected.

I finally got around to trying this, but nothing changes and the Mars still isn't detected. I reinstalled the firmware, tried holding the buttons for the right times, but it seems to be completely bricked.
I'm communicating with the seller, will update if/when I get a repair/replacement.
