Vista help
My computer crashed. I have used Calibre for years but now I'm using an old laptop until I get a new laptop. I tried to download Calibre 64 bit 3.48. When I click on the download nothing. I right clicked and used install. Again nothing. Help. How do I get Calibre on my laptop?
Thanks |

Did you try the 32bit version of 3.48?

My Vista machine got hosed a long time ago and wouldn't launch any .msi installers from Windows file explorer. I had to run them (calibre included) from an administrator command-line with something like:
msiexec /i "path\to\setup.msi" Worth a shot. And as mentioned by others; make sure you don't need the 32-bit installer. 64-bit Vista machines were a thing, but they were fairly rare birds. |

Vista: Either install the final Service pack called Win7, or XP or Linux Mint. Likely too old a PC for Win10.
No penalty on 64 bit Linux Mint with Mate, even if only 1G RAM vs 32 bit. Some applications on Linux are no longer supported as 32 bit. Apple MacOS is now 64 bit only and Win10 64 bit often is poorer at running old 32 bit windows programs than WINE on Linux. Win10's compatibility system is to install a VM with the older Windows, which of course works for almost any Host OS. Unless it's mainly for Vista, XP and win9x games, consider an OS change. |

According to MS, Win7 is a separate OS to Vista. It should have been a free service pack. It fixed everything broken about Vista.
Sorry about my stupid sense of humour. |
