Sorry, if I'm completely wrong. But I was searching if there is a standard way to implement annotations in EPUB format and I found this: http://idpf.org/epub/oa/
Calibre follows this pattern (or any other)? In the case of annotations for education purposes, many people will search for "future proof" solutions. Solutions that they know will enable them to carry their annotations between software along the years to come. |

That's a draft, not a standard. And no calibre does not follow it. If you want to see how annotations are serialized in calibre, use the export tool. The positions are encoded using EPUB CFI

Thanks for your attention.
Is there no pattern yet? (It's so weird to me that a so important feature isn't standardized yet.) Do Calibre annotations work at any other readers? |

No, there is no standard, and no common pattern. And no calibre annotations dont work in any other reader.

It's to be expected that no company wants their customers to leave their platform so Amazon/Kobo/Pocketbook/Tolino have no incentive to either create a standard or adhere to a draft.
