Allow duplicate titles

Is there a way to allow duplicate titles during import?

I have a fairly large library, and I'm finding that if the exact name of a title already exists in the library, a new book with the same title will fail to import.

I understand this would be desired behavior for some, but for my purposes I would prefer to allow the "duplicate". If the title is indeed a duplicate I would delete it after it's been imported.

TIA!

Hi @ll.
But who to do it when they are different versions of it, either due to errata correction or bad translations, how can we add that version difference to keep the last one. For example, in the field ISBN is where I put the version of each book. Can a script be made that checks that field and clears the lowest ISBNs, which are supposed to be the oldest books?
Thanks

ISBN are NOT serial numbers. They have no weight (except for the same publisher)

ISBN (10)
Language digit - Publisher 1-7 digits - Book number 7-1 digits -check digit (mod 11)
The (early) BPH's have 1 and 2 digit publisher numbers and lots of book numbers.

When a book changes Publishers, the publisher number changes as well as the book number (that could also just change with edition change)

I so sorry for not explain me earlier. When I load a book in calibre I change the field ISBN for special field version, relation with, erratas, new translation, etc... I'd like to automatically delete books with the same title and author, but ISBN (aka version) old, for example book ZZZ version 1.1 is older than ZZZ version 1.2.

Not a desirable feature to auto delete ANY library content (that is not replaced).
You could just drop the replacement format into the Formats Section of the metadata editor. That replaces that format.

Use the Find Duplicates plugin. It will find eBooks with similar titles/author and let you decide which to delete. It will find exact matches for title/author and it will find binary duplicates.

So you can find the same eBooks and decide which one to go.

Try opening calibre, click on the dropdown arrow beside Preferences. Click on Get plugins to enhance calibre. Type find in the filter by name field. Click on Find Duplicates and click on Install.

FWIW, binary duplicates does not always match duplicate binary files.

I ended up running JackSum to locate duplicate binaries.
