Collection problems

Is anyone else having problems with collections under the new firmware? I had nearly 30 books in my "To Be Read" collection under the previous firmware, updating today took that down to ONE. I added books back, reaching 44, and now I'm back to 6

I wanted to try something out, so after adding the missing books back, I connected my Libra to my PC and opened Calibre. Every time I connect to Calibre, I have it set to update the page read count. After it did this, I ejected. The result was the same as the last time, all the books but 6 have disappeared from the collection - the same six. They're all books I've downloaded from my Kobo account directly on to my Libra, the others were sideloaded.

The collection persisted through multiple connections to Calibre 4.23 under the previous firmware, so I'm assuming that something about collection management on the device must have changed with the most recent firmware.

If the mods want to close this thread, feel free, as it's definitely Calibre-related, and I've updated the status of the problem in that forum.

Similar issues happened a lot in recent several releases, at least to me, I posted replies in another thread
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...0&postcount=11

The exact same issue of yours occurred to me too. I had to restore the backup of database file created by Calibre.

I haven't installed the latest firmwares(4.24.15672 or 4.24.15676) yet, don't know if there are more issues.

For the record if anyone finds this while searching, @Uncle Robin had the collection management options enabled in the driver being used in calibre. What happened is the expected behaviour - the collections were updated according to the way the driver was configured. This just happened to mean the books were removed from the collections.

The bolded passage relates to something that confused me. When I was first trying to fix it myself, I saw it setup as in the screenshot attached. I first assumed that "if they do not exist" would mean that it would ignore any that DID exist. When it did not, I added the name of the collection to the "ignore" list. That didn't help either. The only solution was the one you kindly provided, disabling the collection management. I'm still curious as to why it would delete all sideloaded books from the collection it had been instructed to ignore

Just a comment ago, I upgraded my Kobo Forma to 4.24.15676 with patches, after that I tried to connect my Kobo Forma with Calibre, it says something like the database got corrupted again, I have to restore the db file.

And I tried to upgrade the Calibre to 5.0.1, it failed to upgrade, stopped and started to rollback.

The database-corrupted happened multiple times in recent months, rollback happened twice.

I didn't change my OS, I didn't change Calibre, is there any solution I can use to fix these issues for good?

UPDATE:

Last time, I uninstalled old Calibre, and installed the new Calibre msi file, it was successfully installed, this time, I uninstalled the old Calibre, and try to install the new msi file, it rollbacked at the end, I reboot my PC, and install it again, it rollback again, do I have to delete the Calibre local config too? No log or any hints about what is going wrong? I really don't want to delete my local Calibre configs.

UPDATE2:

After googling (https://www.reddit.com/r/Calibre/com...2_bit_calibre/), it seems I have to exit PowerToys, and it works, don't why PowerToys affects it, and Calibre better provides logs when it failed to install.

I know some reasons for the database to be corrupted. If it is happening constantly, then I tend towards failing hardware somewhere.

I don't use PowerToys, but, I had seen comments about it interfering with calibre. There are some issues with the addons that change the file-open dialog, but, that shouldn't come into play during the install.

It doesn't happen constantly, but happens more than 5 times in recent one month or two.

Maybe providing logs or hints about why it fails to install or prompt to exit the PowerToys or exit it automatically?
