Downloading books that work with Fire but not other Kindles

Hi,

I'm sorry if this isn't the right place for this question.

I have a couple of e-books that I purchased from Amazon that can't be downloaded (I get a "You have selected content that is not compatible with any of your registered devices" message).

It looks like these books can be downloaded to Amazon Fire but not to other Kindles.

I assume that I can't bring a book into Calibre if I can't download it. Does this mean that one option would be to buy a cheap, older Amazon Fire and use the download and transfer via USB option, choosing the Fire as my device? Would that work? Is it then likely to be possible to get rid of the DRM for my own use?

Also, is there another way to download the book without having a Fire device?

There will be a list of compatible devices on the book's product page. If the Kindle for PC app is compatible, you could install an older version of the K4PC app, which would allow you to use Calibre with the appropriate DRM plug-ins to liberate the books.

If you owned a Fire tablet that would allow you to download the book to your PC. But if it has DRM you will run into the problem that there is currently no DRM removal solution that works with books downloaded for a Fire.

As Deskisamess wrote, using Kindle for PC (or Mac) is likely the best solution.
