Post Pocketbook dictionaries

Hello all,

I was looking for a more comprehensive/actual dictionary than the 1913 Webster's dictionary and found out that there isn't much for the Pocketbook. I can find with some ease dictionaries for the Kobo (understandable since the Kobo is more popular) but i find myself somewhat frustrated by this ".dic" format.

So, the point of this thread, do you guys have any sources for eng-eng dictionary for the pocketbook?

Here is what I found so far:

On the Pocketbook website, there is the 1913 Webster's, the "Dahl doctionary" and a few other lang-lang dictionaries. The 1913 Webster's is pre-installed and I was not able to make the Dahl work on my Pocketbook.

User SIRSteiner, many moons ago, made an excellent work compiling Wiktionary entries and the Webster's 1913 entries to make his own "RS dictionary" : see this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=190769

I found a bunch of Kobo dictionaries, as I said, but I find the converter (found on the Pocketbook website) very difficult to use (granted I didn't try much) and the input format is not the Kobo format anyway.

I have used RS dictionary and also a Merriam-Webster's and WordNet dictionary, which I could make available to you. They are basically the same, though. A much better option is to install KOReader for Pocketbook and download some of the more comprehensive dictionaries available through the software itself.
It's best to use this stable test build of KOReader, it is being adjusted for Pocketbooks at the moment:

Thanks LucyOne for this advice, I will look into that tonight, I am not familiar with KOReader...
I would take you up on that offer in the meantime, though!

I don't know if this BookLand link is still good, or if this dictionary works on modern PocketBooks, but if it does this looks like the simplest english dictionary solution.

https://www.bookland.com/eng/dictionaries/129

In the installation instructions it looks like it asks for the device's serial number. Does this mean that it's only good for one device? Also it installs using an application called "PBI" — do all PocketBooks use this?

Thanks for any pointers. I'll probably wait until I get my new PocketBook (if this is only good for one device) but this looks like it could be the easiest way to get the Oxford Dictionary on a PocketBook, which would be nice.

EDIT: Definitely for one device only. All I had to do is read the installation instructions, they weren't hiding it. From the Instructions...

NOTE:You can only use the purchased dictionary on a single device with the same serial number which you have set during purchasing the dictionary.

Yes, according to Pocketbook's own information on dictionaries, the two formats accepted are .dic and .pbi. You would have to copy the .dic in the system/dictionary folder of the reader, but copy the .pbi in the PB's internal memory and the PB will do the installation.

So i've installed KOReader and fiddled with it a little and although i see good functions in it, at the moment it is not ideal for me... First, i have a PB color and KOReader doesn't yet support the kaleido eink display. Since basic epub reading on the original software is more than acceptable, KOReader would have been nice for PDFs and those are the documents full of color. It doesn't seem worth it now just for a few dictionaries. Second, I don't quite understand why, on KOReader, you cannot select a folder in which all your books are and it would show you a display of all the books. I know some people like to navigate their collections in a folders/folders/file structure, but I do like the "Library" section of the reader where all the books on the memory are shown. Third, i used it for an evening and my Pocketbook froze many times, even when opening a simple epub, I'll have to come back to it later when it's more stable. And color is supported.

Thank you for the explanation. I'll probably just go ahead and buy this for my PB615 (and buy it again, when I get whatever new PocketBook I end up with). An Oxford dictionary on the PocketBook sounds too good to pass up.

I think there is an Oxford dictionary for Pocketbook here.
(NHedgehog already linked to the thread.)
