Books not showing in library

I am trying to send some books that have converted into Kindle format that I have downloaded from some free sites to my Kindle app running on my Andriod tablet. The problem is that I had a bad SD card so I had to reset my tablet and now no matter what I try, I can not seem to get the books to show in the library on the Kindle app. The tablet is running Android 7 and the Kindle app is 8.38. Prior to having to reset, I was able to get the books to show when the SD card was mounted.

Things I have tried:
*Having Calibre install the books on to the tablet (this worked before the reset)
*Loading them myself into a directory manually on the SD card (this worked before the reset)
*Rebooting the tablet
*Forcing close the Kindle app
*Clearing the cache

Is there any suggestion that anyone can give me to resolve this issue? I am sure that the Kindle version is the same I was using when things worked because I had to reinstall it a few times because of the bad SD card.
