Default margins on the PW4
Hi,
I tried searching for the answer myself, but could not find it even browsing the Mobileread Wiki. I really like Koreader and especially the user self controlled contrast function on EPUBs. I thought extra real-estate without the margins would benefit me, but sadly it does not since I'm used to PW default margins it seems. I tried setting them up just like a Kindle in Koreader but I only have one so I can't really compare side to side. Are there official values of the default margins posted somewhere. Thank You. |

You've been ruined by some pretty poor forced choices by Amazon.

True, why use the potentially largest R&D budget on the planet when you can incrementally stagnate. But for some reason I am moving fastest on those margins with highest comprehension and right now I am not reading for pleasure. I used to read on largest margins with highest comprehension but that felt like work all the time. Kindle default margins without hyphenation are best for me, kfx formatting is nice eg ligatures and kerning but I can't concentrate on a slab of pure justification with hyphenation. Ragged left is okay but mostly it's ragged left justification.
What I would like is kerning ligatures no hyphenation minimal justification and koreader word expansion values I could save to a text file as a style and apply that style in koreader which I think is now possible. I know it can be done and that there are default kindle values specified somewhere since I am now JB but I would rather not mess sth up being given root. I of course don't expect anyone to do the work for me just guide me to the information if it is public and if not then advise me where are the files located. I would have posted in koreader sub but I don't know how kindle demographic is there. Sorry for the long post, don't know how to make it shorter. ![]() Last edited by Ico; 08-10-2020 at 06:23 AM. |

IIRC, margins were stored in a device-independent manner, which meant the scale was DPI-based, and I never actually groked the formula.
You can look at the (old, old) margin tweaking hack for Kindle, and then dig into the highly obfuscated bytecode to see if you can fish something useful out of that. Or, you can simply take a snapshot, then pull out the ruler tool in any image editing software, and you'll have a pixel value for your device, which you can then translate to a KOReader value (the scaling formula: https://github.com/koreader/koreader....lua#L278-L300) (The margins recap popup also translates that to px for you). |

You say you don't like hyphens, but do you like gaps more then you don't like hyphens? KFX is the only way to get kerning and ligatures. KF8 does not do either. But with KFX, I don't know if you can turn off hyphenation. On a 300DPI 6" screen, I think the Kindle L/R margins may be 50px. If it's not 50px, it's close as it's more then 45px and it won't be more then 50px. |

Is there a way to make the side margins smaller on my PW4? I'd like to have more text on the screen if possible. Also, does KOreader work on PW4?
