Calibre will not update!
HI

I am trying to update to version 4.21.0 from 4.20.0 but it does not work.

Plenty of disk space.

Update appears to work (i.e. no errors are generated) and I restart PC after process completes, but there is no effect. Stuck at version 4.20.0

Does anyone have any advice?

What OS and version and where are you downloading the update from?
And why are you restarting your pc?

At times if calibre is running when you do the update, it needs to restart to replace files that were in use during the install.

Are you sure you are installing the correct version (i.e., 32-bit or 64-bit version)? If you have the 32-bi version and you are installing the 64-bit version, you'll have two different intalls.

Restart - as @DNSB says, because Calibre likes it (usually after an update it advises a restart ...)

If you have the same version 32-bit or 64-bit, make sure Calibre is not running when you do then install.

Aha! Well spotted - doh! I am an idiot!

Has the site changed? There seems to be a new link to Windows 64 bit ... I'm sure I usually clicked on the Windows link and just got the 64 bit automatically ...
... oh well, thanks. I'll re-install ... I you don't hear from me again all is well.
