Kobo Clara Orientation

Hi i have enabled the landscape mode for my Clara by adding the ForceAllowLandscape=true parameter in the ini file and it works well.

My only question about this is is there a way to have inverted landscape as an option? The only way i found this to be possible is by having enabled landscape and after going in the developer options and inverting the orientation.

Unless there is a patch for it, then you have found the way to do it. The Clara HD doesn't have a sensor for detecting the orientation, so, it has to be an option. And landscape mode isn't an officially supported function, you either have to do it using config file options, or the developer mode options.

But, I'm curious, why? I can see the desire with the devices that have buttons, but, I don't see an advantage for the Clara HD.

i would like to have the option to use the clara in landscape mode for reading, for me its a little more comfortable to hold in that position.

As i explained i have added that parameter to the config file and rebooted the device. Upon reboot the top menu on the home screen how has an orientation icon which allows to switch between portrait and landscape.

Furthermore, if you go to the developer section you can see four options; portrait, inverted portrait, landscape, inverted landscape.

My question was to see if there is the possibility to have inverted landscape option within the home menu icon rather than having to go all the way in the settings>dev>orientation

Hm...
I have tried to change the orientation on my Aura H2O2 from dev options, but every time I do that it automatically switches back to Portrait. Any ideas?

A patch is unlikely, since this is hardcoded in multiple places, and I don't think it's worth the effort (for the record, I was interested in this for myself). A hook might be possible though.

For the Clara HD, I'd want inverted portrait to be able to hold it from the top side more easily, or to be able to put the plug out the top when doing stuff with it plugged in over USB.

this is possible but you need to have developer options enabled. If you do then go to settings>device info>developer options and switch orientation to Inverted Portrait

Have you inserted ForceAllowLandscape=true parameter to the kobo config ini?

After inserting the parameter and restarting your device, on the home screen next to the brightness icon you should get an orientation icon. Tap that and switch from portrait to landscape.
