"book is being prepared for reading on the server": what files are created?

When seeing this message: "book is being prepared for reading on the server", what files are being created on the server?

I run calibre portable on one computer and make an offline copy of it to another computer that then runs calibre-server. When web users access calibre-server and get the message "book is being prepared for reading on the server", I guess some new files are being created and cached so that opening the same book will be quicker. What are where are these new files that are created so I can avoid overwriting/deleting them when I do my offline copies?

they are created in the calibre cache directory. Dont copy the calibre cache directory its not portable.

What about user-specific information like book progress? Does the server also save that info in the cache folder?

No that is saved in the database.

There is only one database shared by the GUI and the server? Then that means I'll lose user progress when I overwrite the server's calibre files with the ones from another location.

If you are sharing the same library with both then obviously they share the same database.

I just meant I wasn't sure if the tracking of book progress per user is stored in the library database or in a separate server-specific non-library-related database. Now I understand there is just THE DATABASE.

Yes, all book relatrd information is stored in metadata.db. User accounts as in usernames, passwords, restrictions are stored in a separate database since this is not book or library specific information.
