Refreshing Content Server for newly added books

I am running Calibre/Server via Docker. All is good for the most part.

But newly added books don't appear unless I restart Calibre server.

Let me explain.

I have a Calibre instance on my Win10 PC where I manage books... adding, deleting, editing. My PC's Calibre book library is synced to my NAS where the Calibre Docker server resides.

When a new book is synced to the NAS, it does not appear in the server interface, unless I restart the server (even days after adding the book). It seems like the server is not watching for changes in the database.

It's quite possible I've overlooked a setting somewhere.

What do I need to do for the Docker instance of Calibre/Server to update when new books are added? Thank you.

You need to shutdown both you pc calibre and Docker instance before you sync . Also make sure it is a one way sync. Should be able to find scripts to halt calibre server and then run sync, then restart calibre server.

I have a similar question. I am running calibre server on a Ubuntu server and using rsync to copy my libraries to the server.

I have read on hear multiple times that Kovid states that the calibre server checks the timestamp of the metadata.db file to determine whether it needs to refresh the library.

Is this checking suppose to happen automatically and if so how soon after the files are updated.

I can only get the refresh to happen by restarting the calibre-server service.

That was for the pre 3.x server. If you are using a modern server 3.x and newer you should really be shutting down the server, then doing the sync and then running the server. The server is now capable of making modifications to the library so making modifications yourself in parallel via sync can break things.
